In the mid-1990's NISMO (now Nissan Motorsports & Customizing) began to adapt and commercialize the technology and know-how cultivated in motorsports to street cars. When the CRS project commenced, only the 2nd generation GT-R (R32/R33/R34) existed, however in 2019 the R35 GT-R (2007-2013 model) was added to the line-up. In addition to the complete performance of the S1 engine designed to improve low-to-mid torque and accelerator response, know-how from the Super GT racing machine was also leveraged into the design of original aero parts to enhance aerodynamic performance.
